About Library

 

The College Library is fully computerized with library software and is having air conditioned Reading Hall, Circulation Section, Reference Section, Periodical Section,  Archive Section, Repository Section and Research Faculty Centre.

Library is using Libsys Software to maintain the library database. Library service facilitates the college students with Free Internet facility in the library. Braille corner is also maintained in the library for the visually impaired students.  There is a faculty research Centre equipped with computers having internet access for faculty members and research scholars. The library is equipped with CCTVs.

The Library has a collection of more than 96800 books. INFLIBNET N-List facility to access online journals and books is also available. 78 magazines, 15 newspapers and 33 Journals of various subjects are subscribed in the library for the library users.

Text-books are also issued to needy and meritorious students for the entire academic session. Free books and stationery of Rs.80,000/- are distributed among SC/ST Students every year.

The PGGCG-11 is the first College in Chandigarh to introduce RFID system in the library to enhance the library services. It simplifies pattern of self check-in and check-out of books which saves the times of staff and user and also provides security to the library holdings as this system is anti-theft.

Library Orientation Programme for the new admitted students to get them familiar with library resources and library facilities is organized every year. Book exhibitions are also displayed time to time on various topics to encourage reading habit among the students.

 LCD is also displayed in the library where recent activities of the library, new arrivals and current affairs are exhibited regularly.

Web-OPAC service provided to the users 24*7 over the internet by which one can check the availability of the book in the library.

Library has got institutional membership of National Digital Library of India (NDLI) for all faculty members and students. NDLI is the platform for all the learners with educational materials from primary to postgraduate levels including multiple subject domains.

Alumni desk is also in the library where pass out students get registered them as alumnus. 

Library blog is also maintained as “Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls Library” where library activities are uploaded and updated regularly. Library blog provides access to PU old question papers, PU syllabi, Link for open resources, e-newspapers etc.

Library is also on the way to purchase Anti Plagiarism software for the faculty, post graduate students and research scholars of the institution.
