LIBRARY ORIENTATION

  

Library Orientation Programme is conducted every year at the starting of the session for the new admitted students at the college to make them aware about the collection of library and to make them familiar with library management and also how to make the use of the library resources. This year library orientation programme was held from 12.09.2022 to 19.09.2022. Librarian gave brief information about the rules and regulations of the library and also guide the students that how they can become the member of the library so that they can avail the facilities provided by the library and make optimum use of the library resources.

Library Competition


To inculcate the reading habits among the students and to aware them with the library collection and management, Library competitions were organized in the library on 13/05/2022 under the able guidance of principal madam Prof. Dr. Anita Kaushal such as Slogan writing, Book Jacket Making, Bookmark Making, Book hunting and Reference hunting were organized. 

13.05.2022 Library Department of Post Graduate Govt. College for Girls, Sector-11 Chandigarh, organized a series of competitions like Slogan writing, Book jacket making, Bookmark making, Book hunting and Reference hunting. The main aim of this function was to create awareness and make students aware them with the library management and working among the students.



 Prof. (Dr) Anita Kaushal, Principal of the college distributed prizes to the winners and motivated the students for optimum use of the library as library is the best learning place which provides opportunity for learning and helps shape the new ideas and perspectives. Nearly 100 students participated in these competitions.

Book Exhibition on Constitution Day


Book Exhibition was organized under the guidance of Madam Principal Prof. Dr. Anita Kaushal on Constitution Day on 26 November 2021 in the library.

Constitution Day, also known as National Law Day, is observed annually on 26 November to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution of India on 26 November, 1949, and it came into force on 26 January 1950, which is celebrated in the country as Republic Day.

Some of the important features of Indian Constitution are:

Important Features of the Indian Constitution:

Preamble (Inspired by US Constitution) declares India to be a Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, Republic. 

Article 1: (inspired by British And Canadian Constitution) stipulates a Federal System with a two tier governance system with a unitary base. 
India has been described as a 'union of states'. 

Article 12-21 A to 36 (inspired by French and US constitutions) grants 7 Fundamental rights to Indian Citizens safeguarding them from any dictatorial or totalitarian tendencies. 

12-13 Definition and overruling effect on any law inconsistent with Fundamental rights. 

14-18. Right to equality and Prohibition of racial or caste discrimination. 

19-22. Right to freedom

23-24. Right against exploitation

25-28. Right to freedom of Religion

29-30. Cultural and education Rights

32 and 226. Right to constitutional remedies

21 A. Right to education. 

Article 51 A mentions Fundamental Duties (inspired by Soviet Constitution) 

Article 36-51 lays down Directive principles for state policy. (Inspired by Irish Constitution). 

Secularism 42 Amendment
The constitution makes India a secular state by detaching from religious dogmas

Independent judiciary Article 76 (Inspired by US Constitution) The constitution provides an independent judiciary which ensures that the government is carried on in accordance with the provisions of the constitution and acts as a guardian of the liberties and fundamental rights of the citizens. 

Services Security as Constitutional Right is granted under Article 308-314.

Emergency powers Article 352 to 360 from Weimer Constitution of Germany.

Concurrent list and Part XIII from article 301 to 307 stipulates state, union and concurrent lists (inspired by Australian Constitution) 

        Thus best provisions from the best constitutions from around the world went into the formation of such a Beautiful and Greatest Edifice of Indian Democracy which invokes a host of other laws in defence of its citizens. For such an effort at such a grand scale, all of us must be thankful to and salute to the Stalwarts like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel and many other great souls.

Book Exhibition

 Under the able guidance of Principal Prof Dr. Anita Kaushal, Book Exhibition was organized to celebrate Children Day on November 14 to mark the 132th birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Known as 'Chacha Nehru' among children. This day is celebrated to increase awareness about the rights, education, and welfare of children. Nehru considered children as real strength of a nation and foundation of society.

 
On this day, College library organized a Book exhibition to motivate and encourage reading habit among students. Books written by and on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru such as The Discovery of India, Glimpses of World History, and his autobiography, Toward Freedom. Letters from a Father to His Daughter were displayed in this exhibition. Students enthusiastically visit library to explore this exhibition.

     In this pandemic, library took the initiative to aware the students on the current ongoing situation on COVID Vaccination. Many People are Vaccinated and many are scared of being vaccinated. To aware and encourage the students regarding vaccination, Under the able guidance of Principal Ma'am Prof. Dr. Anita Kaushal, Library has organized Poster making competition on 07.06.2021 on the topic, "COVID VACCINATION: THE NEXT RIGHT THING".  Large number of students shown their interest in this competition.
