Awareness Programme on Understanding and Promoting Mental Health


               Through the means of mass communication, we are getting information about Covid-19 which is resulting to anxiety,fear and depression. Keeping in the mind the current situation and importance of mental health, a webinar was organized by on 12 May 2020 on the topic “Awareness Programme on Understanding and Promoting Mental Health” on the for individuals of all disciplines to help them with their own mental health thereby help others to cope with the same situation.

Mr. Aadi Garg was invited as the key-note speaker who throws light on the concept of Mental Health, psychological well being, psychological disturbances faced during lock down period and also the status of mental health in India. 107 Participants from all over India i.e. from Patna, Punjab, Uttrakhand, Assam, Pondichery, Kerala, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Kochi, Bangalore, Delhi, Odisha and other local colleges and schools of Chandigarh attended the webinar.

He also discussed about mental issues and illness like anxiety, clinical depression, OCD’s. Research is still going on to uncover complicated causes of these diseases. He suggested that many activities like yoga help to induce resilience towards mental illness and related issues.



The attendees were also told about various coping strategies. He focused on the fact that we should read more often as it helps us to calm down and gives an escape from the stressful world as it gives us the freedom to explore our imagination through access to libraries, e-books etc. In this way, digital libraries help to provide us a platform to access the e-books of our choice. Many mental health related questions during lock down were asked by the participants. All those queries were well answered by the speaker.

With the words, “Mental health is a battle to be won. It is a journey to continue walking”, the session was concluded by him.
